Originally written for my nephew, Ryan's marriage to his lovely wife, Stacey, in 2015. The song is about how we find each other, connect, nurture, support and encourage each other. This is the most meaningful song I've written as it celebrates and pays tribute to the core of our experience, our shared humanity. Aroha mai, aroha atu, is a Maori proverb translating to "love received, love returned".
lyrics
The Steps To You
Sailing the sky,
without leaving,
your side,
is where I soar
the blue.
Rear mirror view
tracks my stumbles,
sun bursts through,
paints my mazy path
to you.
Chorus:
Now if you fall,
I'll be your catcher,
and if my compass fails,
you'll light
the steps to you,
steps to you,
to you.
New morning road,
every mile clearer,
a brighter hue,
dancing these days
us two.
Chorus:
And when I fall,
you'll be my catcher,
and if your compass fails,
I'll light
the steps to you,
steps to you,
to you.
Ocean of love,
everyone dear near,
each breaking roll,
waves of tender
shine through blue.
Chorus:
If anyone falls,
we'll be your catcher,
and if our compass fails,
you'll light
the steps to you,
steps to you,
to you.
Aroha mai,
aroha atu,
aroha mai,
aroha atu.
